Management of the curriculum

This subject will focus on curriculum administration at the macro or system level, the micro or regional level, and the institutional or school level. With specific reference at each level to the membership, role, operational strategies and effectiveness of the formal and informal networks and structures of curriculum power; the skills essential to effective staff management in the curriculum context - including staff selection, continuing education, supervision and monitoring, etc.; the factors influencing decision-makers at each level and the impact of the contextual environment on the relative significance of these factors; financial issues in curriculum management; the management of research and development, dissemination, implementation and evaluation; the role of `society' and its non-school agencies in influencing curriculum management; mobilising community resources for curriculum development; curriculum administration and its place in the hierarchy of educational leadership and influence.

Assessment

Seminar participation * Two written assignments * One oral class presentation
